Background of the Study
Mobile technology adoption in rural banking services has emerged as a transformative force, particularly in developing economies where traditional banking infrastructure is limited. Accord Microfinance Bank, operating in Nigeria, has been a pioneer in leveraging mobile technology to extend financial services to underserved rural populations. The adoption of mobile platforms enables the bank to deliver banking services such as account management, fund transfers, and loan applications directly to the customer’s mobile device, thereby reducing transaction costs and improving service accessibility (Adeniran, 2023). This technological shift has significant implications for rural financial inclusion, as it facilitates prompt, convenient, and secure financial transactions.

The integration of mobile technology into rural banking services also supports the development of tailored financial products designed to meet the unique needs of rural customers, such as microloans and agricultural credit. Accord Microfinance Bank has utilized mobile banking to streamline operations, reduce operational inefficiencies, and provide realtime support and advisory services to its clients (Bello, 2024). Furthermore, mobile technology enhances data collection and analysis, which helps the bank to better understand customer behavior and tailor its products accordingly.

Despite these advantages, the adoption of mobile technology in rural banking is not without challenges. Issues such as network connectivity, digital literacy, and cybersecurity risks can hinder the effective implementation of mobile banking solutions (Chukwu, 2024). Additionally, the integration of mobile platforms with legacy banking systems poses technical and operational difficulties that may affect service quality. This study aims to examine the adoption of mobile technology by Accord Microfinance Bank in delivering rural banking services, focusing on the benefits, challenges, and overall impact on financial inclusion and service efficiency.

Statement of the Problem
Although mobile technology offers a promising solution to improve rural banking services, Accord Microfinance Bank faces several challenges that affect its effective implementation. A primary problem is the inconsistent network coverage in rural areas, which hampers the reliability of mobile banking services and limits customer access (Uche, 2023). Additionally, the low level of digital literacy among many rural customers results in underutilization of mobile platforms, despite the availability of userfriendly applications. This digital divide further widens the gap between urban and rural banking service accessibility.

Another significant challenge is the integration of mobile technology with existing legacy systems. Technical incompatibilities and insufficient IT infrastructure can lead to delays, increased transaction errors, and reduced service efficiency (Eze, 2024). Moreover, cybersecurity threats and data privacy concerns remain critical issues that undermine customer trust and impede the widespread adoption of mobile banking solutions. These challenges contribute to operational inefficiencies and limit the positive impact of mobile technology on rural financial inclusion.

This study seeks to address these issues by investigating how Accord Microfinance Bank has adopted mobile technology in rural banking services. The research will assess the effectiveness of mobile platforms in improving financial accessibility, identify key challenges, and propose solutions to enhance the overall performance of mobile banking in rural areas.
